Summer is quickly approaching and after all the late nights studying (and crying) at the library in attempts to save this semester, I am ready for a summer full of adventure, arts, and most importantly, music. Here are my top picks to make sure that summer lives up to all the hard work we’ve put in to this semester.
X Games and Concert Series
When: June 2-5
Where: Austin, TX
Cost: $29-149+ (depending on what activities you chose to do)
Why: This will be the FINAL year that Austin will host the X Games. And what better way to say farewell than attending performances by G-Eazy, Logic, All Time Low, and Blink-182! I know this rap phase I entered in will be excitedly screaming along with my inner 8th grade punk rock lover at this line up. While there you can check out the games and events and also visit some local Austin staples such as SoCo and the Hamilton Pool to stay cool!
Free Press Summer Fest
When: June 4-5
Where: Houston, TX
Why: Over 55 bands performing in a 2 day period including Lil Wayne, 2 Chains, Modest Mouse, The Chainsmokers and more all wrapped into one weekend? Sign me up! Located in the center of Houston, there is plenty to see, do, and eat all around you in addition to listening to great music. FPSF is the perfect festival to tide you over until Austin City Limits in October.
Scarborough Renaissance Festival
When: April 30 – May 30
Why: Who doesn’t like to travel back in time to an entirely different way of life? Full of good eats, fun games, live events, and a mermaid lagoon, this renaissance festival is bound to give you a day full of adventure.
River City Rock Fest
When: May 29
Where: San Antonio, TX
Cost: $59.50 – $70
Why: With performances from today’s rock heroes such as Bullet For My Valentine and Sixx:Am, this rock festival is sure to be a good time. While in San Antonio, be sure to also check out the historic Alamo, stroll down the Riverwalk, or visit some of the theme parks nearby as well to turn this one day music show into a weekend getaway!
When: May 28-29
Where: El Paso, TX
Why: Maybe you missed the Coachella concert series in California the past couple of weekends and are looking for a Texas desert music series instead. Well look no further! Showcasing EDM, indie, and hip-hop talents, this festival also pays tribute to El Paso by showcasing its heritage throughout the process. With the Deftones and Future apart of its incredible line up, Neon Desert is a can’t miss.
When: July 16-17
Where: San Marcos, TX
Why: The Texas heat is almost unbearable and with so many live music events being outside, this festival is surely unique in that you can float down the river with your friends while jamming out! With performances by Rick Ross and the Bleachers, this line up is sure to deliver both new artists to fall in love with along with those that are currently on the rise. You don’t want to miss out!
